5. Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) Units
Dissolved Air Flotation units are used for thickening and separating suspended solids from liquids. They work by introducing tiny air bubbles into the liquid. The air bubbles attach to the solid particles, making them float to the surface.
The process starts with the pressurization of water with air. When this pressurized water is released into the treatment tank, the air comes out of solution in the form of small bubbles. These bubbles attach to the solid particles, and the floating layer of solids can be skimmed off the surface.
DAF units are often used in industries like food processing, where they can separate fats, oils, and suspended solids from wastewater. They can also be used in the thickening of biological sludge in wastewater treatment.
